Why You’re Feeling Alone (And The Lovely Truth Behind It)
I’ve been thinking a lot about loneliness lately. Not the word — the feeling. The kind that creeps in quietly, sits beside you, and whispers that you’re on your own in this world.
If you know that feeling, this blog is for you.
Because loneliness isn’t what we think it is.
In fact, the uncomfortable, surprising, almost-annoying truth is:
Loneliness is often your unconscious mind trying to protect you.
Yes — protect.
It’s clumsy, it’s unhelpful, and it often makes things worse.
But at the root of it is a positive intention.
You’re Not Alone — You Just Lost Touch With Yourself
There was a time when I felt deeply alone. Really deeply.
And in a moment of frustration or clarity (maybe both), I wrote a sentence in a notebook:
“You’re never alone. You’re always with yourself.”
The problem wasn’t that I had no one.
The problem was that I wasn’t connected to me.
Loneliness is…
disconnection from yourself.
When you rebuild that connection, the world feels different.
Why Your Mind Chooses Loneliness
Here’s something most people never realise:
Your unconscious mind is always trying to keep you safe.
If something hurt you — a person, a disappointment, a shock — your unconscious might pull you inward to protect you.
But instead of protecting you from one thing,
it protects you from everything.
That’s what loneliness really is:
overprotection.
Once you know that, you can work with it instead of being trapped by it.
Ask Better Questions, Change the Feeling
Loneliness thrives on poor questions like:
“Why am I like this?”
“Why can’t I just be normal?”
“Why does no one care?”
Better questions give better answers:
“How can I reconnect?”
“What small step would help me today?”
“What strength have I used before that I can use again now?”
“What would comfort look like right now?”
Your unconscious mind loves questions.
It just needs better ones.
